Tempranillo

Tobacco leaves, spice, leather and strawberry
The things we love have many names and this also goes for the king of Spain, Tempranillo. With so many regional synonyms, you will loose your breath trying to keep track of them all.

Whereas good Tempranillo wines are made in Portugal, Australia and the US, some of the best come from the two regions of Rioja and Ribera del Duero, known for their lively deep-flavored reds.

Tempranillo produces vibrant and aromatic wines that range over spice, leather, tobacco leaves and occasionally strawberries. Oak is often associated with this grape due to aging on either French barriques or American oak.

As an overall savory grape with soft tannins it makes as a great food-wine. Pair it with traditional tapas like Jamón Ibérico, or try it with a milder curry dish.
