Tar, rose, licorice and truffles
There is a certain mystery surrounding one of Italy’s most admired grapes. Perhaps it is because the name Nebbiolo is believed to derive from the Italian word for fog – nebbia.

Nebbiolo produces expressive age-worthy wines and is, undoubtedly, most known for its Piemontese king of red wines Barolo, and its female counterpart Barbaresco.

Nebbiolo does not travel well and is high maintenance, which is why it has never thrived quite as well elsewhere as on the Piemontese slopes. Alike its top contender Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo takes kindly to its terroir, thus displaying the subtleties of its habitat.

Most noticeable in young Nebbiolo wines are the gripping tannins, but as it ages the tannins soften, allowing the wine to transform into a tantalizing experience of depth, structure and perfume.

The wines are often high in alcohol, acidity and tannins with complex flavors and aromas of dark fruits, truffles, tar and tobacco and ages well.
