Wine Profile

Aroma Notes-

Tauleto is a dialect term applied by local farmers to a plot with abundant water resources. The springs running under the Sangiovese in the Tauleto vineyard contribute to minimising water stress in the vines. To make Tauleto, Umberto Cesari recovered the Uva Longanesi, a nearly-forgotten native grape..

Appearance: Intense ruby red with sumptuous purple highlights
Bouquet: Wild red berryfruit, ripe black cherry, with nuances of rose petals, pungent balsam, and spice.
Palate: Majestic entry, with succulent, pulpy red fleshed fruit, complemented by impressions of spice, pipe tobacco, and pencil lead. Tannins are noticeable, but supple. The finish is lengthy and intense.

Wine Making

A red wine of superb structure and longevity made only in the finest growing years. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Uva Longanesi. The vineyards average 20 years old and yield 65 quintals per hectare. The grapes are quality-selected, then the must ferments in specialised, temperature-controlled fermenters that allow a lengthy maceration on the skins. It matures 24 months in 225-litre new Allier oak barrels then ages in the bottle a further 6 months.

Umberto Cesari

Umberto Cesari Winery, founded in 1964, lies in the hills of Castel San Pietro Terme, in western Romagna. Our winemaking has always focused on our local native grapes, but over time we have added international varieties as well. Day by day, we have watched our vineyards grow, as has our awareness that our local growing area is our most important natural resource. That is the reason that we follow a philosophy that respects the earth but at the same time welcomes new challenges represented by sustainability and innovation. Because we know that the grape of tomorrow must be even better than that of today.
