    Aroma Note arrow-down2

Deep crimson hues with magenta edges. Complex vitality with layers of ripe dark fruits enhanced by leafy notes. Structured and fruit-driven, the palate delivers blackcurrant and spicy nuances supported by fine-grained tannins. There is a touch of bitterness melting into the mouth. This is an ethereal Bordeaux Blend. Elegant, boasting of quality and finesse. Distinct mocha and oak notes, wonderful integration of fruit and tannins.

    Robert Parker Wine Advocate arrow-down2

Coming from a single vineyard planted in 1971 and 1976, the 2009 Diana Madeline is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 2% Malbec. It was aged for around 13 months in French barriques, 55% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it offers expressive aromas of ripe cassis, freshly crushed blackberries and blueberries over cloves, damp loam, hung meat, grated mace, dried Mediterranean herbs and a dusting of dark chocolate powder. Medium bodied and wonderfully graceful on the palate, it has crisp acid, firm finely grained tannins and a long earthy finish. It really needs another year or two in bottle to open-out, drinking best 2013 to 2023+.

    Vinous arrow-down2

(88% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc, 4% merlot and 2% malbec, raised in 55% new French oak; 12.5% alcohol): Dark violet. Fresh cherry and raspberry aromas are complemented by pipe tobacco and dried rose. Silky and sweet in the mouth, with bright red fruit flavors complemented by deeper bitter chocolate and herbal nuances. Firmly structured but in no way hard, finishing with excellent clarity and sappy persistence.

    James Suckling Wine Advocate arrow-down2

A miraculous 12.5% and yet impeccably ripe with mulch, peat and an iodine minerality giving pulse and great length. Cabernet dominant Bordeaux blend. This wine is clearly reflective of its meager, ancient and stony soils. Long and sappy. Penetrative. Needs time to shed its tannins, but so not in the mold of extract and really ripe fruit that many perceive the New World, let alone Australia, as being all about! Screwcap. This will age for twenty years although approachable after five years.

The only biodynamic and carbon positive winery and restaurant in the region. You are welcomed to taste their wines at the Biodynamic Carbon Positive Wine Room.A Brief HistoryWinegrowing began on the Cullen property in Margaret River 50 years ago. Studies in the early 1960s showed that Margaret River had some very special qualities. The climate was particularly suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. On the advice of eminent agronomist Dr John Gladstones, Dr Kevin and Diana Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18 acres of vines on their sheep and cattle farm in 1971.Wine Growing Cullen wine comes from the heart of the land rather than the mind of the winemaker. At Cullen, they take seriously their job as custodians of the land, to acknowledge the Wadandi people as the previous custodians with respect, and to look after the ancient Wilyabrup soils. Certified biodynamic, they add BD preparation 500 to their soil to create microbiologically active, intelligent soil. They harvest the grapes on auspicious planetary aspects, usually about the Moon, and press them in the winery with no additions at all. This is the purest form of winemaking with respect to place, on some of the oldest, most beautiful land. Wilyabrup’s Mediterranean maritime climate makes it possible to do that year in, year out, and have consistent quality grapes. Some try to tweak nature to make it perfect, Vanya Cullen knows nature is perfect already.
